100 Point Wine Rating System

What is the 100 Point Wine Rating System?

The 100 point wine rating system was made popular by Robert Parker in the early 1980's, and then adopted by many others including Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast, but how are wine ratings calculated?.

Pne Hundred points is actually a misleading name because it is a 50 point system with 50 points added to the total score.

Parker allocates a score out of the following categories:

•  5 Points for First Impression or Color
• 15 points for Aroma or Bouquet
• 10 points for Flavor
• 10 points for Finish
• 10 points for Aging Potential

See, the actual maximum points add up to 50. Add the base of 50 and you will obtain a wine rating out of 100 points. You can use these categories to rate wines for yourself
